So we decided to go on a mini vacation before gas prices are too high. On May 1st Dana, Ken and I got in the van and drove to our first stop, Grants Pass, OR. We loaded Kris in Julie in the van and were off. We drove through Klamath Falls, OR, Lakeview, OR and into Winnemuca NV. In Klamath Falls area we incountered snow! Feeling the call of nature in more that one way we stopped at a rest area. There Julie, who is an adventerious girl walked bare footed in the snow and even made a "face print" in the snow. She then called shotgun for the front seat, defeating Kenneth for this spot. Julie is one of the great debater's, kept us all entertained debating with Dana. We drove on into lakeview, and on to Winnemucca, where one must drive on one of the most spellbinding roads ever. It is a very steap climb, once at the top you are awareded with one of the most beautiful water falls ever. We then made it into Winnemuca. Spending the night in Minnemuca was, shall I say it, interesting! It is a very small town in NV. We stayed at the Holiday Inn, ate at a Mexican resturante attached to the inn. This town is so small, but it has a Super Wal-mart that provided entertaining...Winnemucca has a redwood log from Crescent City, CA. It came from the Tsunami, and is there in winnemucca claiming to be the "gate way to Crescent City! Next morning we drove to Carson city, NV...the capitol of Nevada. Stayed at the Holiday Inn in Carson City. We were off the the destination of our trip, Virginia City.
Virgina City is a nice place to visit...history of one of he largest silver mines, shopping, mine tours and a lot of other things to do. Ken and I shopped while Dana, Kris and Julie went on a mine tour, we then met up and had lunch at a resturant where we sat outdoors. The view of the mountain was so pretty. We finished up shopping and headed down the mountain. The next morning we visited the Carson City Train Museum. That was a bit of interest...got a lot of good photos. Then we were off for home via Lake Tahoe. The lake was so clear that you could see the bottom of the lake all around. Still has much snow on the ground in Tahoe, we stopped and streched out legs and did a bit of shopping. We got on the 5 freeway stopping in Redding CA, to eat at the Red Robin for dinner. Got to Kris and Julies around 9 pm and into Smith River around 11pm. It was a busy trip, but much fun.
